~ THE FIRST GENERATION ~

X-Mini

It is almost impossible not to be impressed by the pocket-sized X-mini capsule speakers that could produce justifiable sound quality.

Give the device a sideways twist and the X-mini extended upwards, accordion-style. And it’s this extendable vacuum that acts like a loudspeaker, allowing the mini device to boom out in a surprisingly loud, full-bodied volume – a patented technology that mimics the resonance of a sub-woofer!

Just take it out of your pocket and put it on a table, then connect it to your MP3 player or mobile phone and press play. You’ll be amazed to hear how it boosts the sound and how clear the music is. It is rechargeable through USB and you can use it for up to 8 hours until it’ll need the next recharging.

X-Mini Max

The X-mini Max is a pair of stereo speakers – each retaining XM-I’s patented Bass Xpansion System (BXS) which mimics the resonance of a sub woofer.  With the new stereo speakers, the volume level of the X-mini Max can be raised to a substantial level without any distortion.

Powered by separate in-built rechargeable batteries with separate PCB boards, each speaker can be detached and be played as a Mono speaker on its own.  Users will have the flexibility to use the X-mini Max as a pair of stereo speakers at home or office, or take out one of the speakers to be used as a Mono speaker on the move.  The improved battery life allows up to 10 hours continuous play time, designed to meet the requirements of even the most demanding music enthusiasts for both heavy indoor and outdoor usage.

Much like the X-mini Capsule Speaker, the X-mini Max is also designed for increased portability.  The two X-minis are connected at the bottom by a magnetic base (that were assured won’t interfere with the tweeter) so as to easily keep them for hassle-free storage and portability.  The X-mini Max is one of the world’s smallest stereo speakers with dual audio output capabilities that are capable of producing explosive volume and bass over ten times its physical size.

~ THE SECOND GENERATION ~

X-Mini II

The X-Mini II is obviously the second generation of the X-Mini Capsule Speaker. It’s slightly bigger, but now features an built-in 3.5mm audio cable so you don’t have to carry one around with you. Like the original, it has an internal USB rechargeable battery, and this one even lasts up to 12 hours.

Audio output is surprisingly rich. It is clear with a generous amount of bass and a nice warm tone. If you need more boom, the X-Mini II can be daisy chained with other X-Minis (including the older models) to amplify its sound. Chaining a few X-Minis together creates a wall of sound loud enough to put high-end stereo systems to shame.

X-Mini Max II

In this generation two of the X-mini Max, the drivers are angled at a slight 10 degrees toward the user in order to achieve a more directional sound field.  The Max II appears a bit more futuristic than the previous model, thanks to the cone-shaped speaker domes and the shape of the speaker opening.  To use, you split the speaker into two halves.  These are held firmly together by magnetic bases that will not interfere with the tweeter.  To complete the process, you twist and extend each half to fully extend the accordian bass tube. You may choose to use these speakers in compact or extended modes, but you’ll get a different bass response from them.

Like the original Max, you can use both speakers together for stereo output or each on its own for the same monaural effect you get with the original Max. The USB cable with the volume control built-in provides the audio signal as well as power to recharge the built-in batteries in the Max II. The battery is rated for 12 hours and took about 2.5 hours to charge via a USB port.

Like the original X-mini II, the Max II has a “buddy-jack” port, for you to daisy chain as many Max IIs as you want.

Should you get it?

Whether you are going for a BBQ or a picnic but do not wish to drag along your hifi system, or if you need to share your music with friends but find the built-in speaker on your phone or media player lacking volume, then the X-mini II and X-mini Max II definitely deserves your consideration.
